With any Cloud build the SAN (storage array network) is normally the bottle neck. We had a custom SAN cluster built for us that uses SSD Caching on the most recent used files backed by a 15k SAS raid backend.

This gives us intelligent read and write caching software using SSDs delivers up to 13X more transactions per second compared to HDD-only arrays.

The intelligent read/write software utilises SSDs as a dedicated pool of high-performance cache in front of HDDs to cost-effectively improve both read and write performance, reduce I/O latencies, accelerate application response time and lower RAID access and rebuild times.

The software eliminates the need to manually configure hybrid arrays that utilize SSD as primary storage pools by intelligently and dynamically directing frequently accessed data to a higher-performance, dedicated layer of SSD cache. While achieving up to 13X more transactions per second compared to HDD-only arrays for a wide variety of I/O-intensive application workloads

We only use the latest new server technology direct from Dell and always use the ltest Inter quad core Xeon Cpu’s. All of our nodes have SSD (Solid State Drives) to give us the maximum speed and hot migration times via our gigabit network. This meant a much higher initial investment but has enabled us to offer a truly SSD powered cloud solution

Our Nodes are powered by Xen, a leading open source container-based virtualization solution built on Linux. Xen creates isolated, secure containers (otherwise known as VEs or VPSs) on a single physical server enabling better server utilisation and ensuring that applications do not conflict. Each container performs and executes exactly like a stand-alone server; containers can be rebooted independently and have root access, users, IP addresses, memory, processes, files, applications, system libraries and configuration files.

We do not resell or buy in any cloud services, it is built on our own equipment in our own racks, unlike many other providers.
