Next Gen Dell Power Edge Monster 32 Core
We have just set up a really nice server for a customer, it’s the new Dell Poweredge R430. With 32 Cores and 128Gb of ram, this monster really packs a punch for it’s size.
With two Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2630 v3 (20M Cache, 2.40 GHz) that turbo up to 3.2HGz giving 32 cores and a max possible ram of 768 GB each.
This 1U rack server may only be 24in. deep but it squeezes in a big hardware package that includes dual E5-2600 v3 CPUs, a high memory capacity and plenty of storage options.
The short depth of the chassis makes good cooling design imperative and Dell has done a great job. System cooling is handled by a bank of six cold-swap, dual rotor fans in front of the motherboard while the CPU sockets and attendant DIMM slots are covered by a removable plastic air shroud.
The smooth air flow path through the chassis means the fans don’t have to work hard and we found the R430 extremely quiet.
Memory allotment is slightly unusual as the eight front slots are assigned to the first CPU socket while the second socket gets four slots.
We’ve added 5 Samsung Enterprise ssd’s in a raid ten config to really make this server fly.
